Data on the Move with Port Authority's New Transportation BI Solution
The Venice Port Authority is a public agency that promotes investments, innovation, employment, and new services aiming at improving the quality and competitiveness of the Venice Port. Set at the northern end of the Mediterranean Sea and at a crucial point of union between the East and West, the Port of Venice has always had an enormous impact on the city of Venice’s economic prosperity and cultural diversity.
Like many ports around the world, the port is experiencing competitive pressures from all directions.
The Port is focusing its development strategy on the growth of diversified traffic and developing new services and activities, with the objective of further expansion in commercial and passenger traffic. This constant growth potential is also dependant upon its extensive transportation network that connects it to major ports around the world.
Continuous analysis, monitoring, and trend spotting of trade volumes is paramount to support the Port Authorities marketing and business development efforts. The successful execution of these efforts will result in higher levels of demand on port infrastructure, berths, terminals, warehouses, and the transport infrastructure linking the port to its hinterland.
Investments in infrastructure are costly and require substantial lead times. Thus careful planning and diligent analysis and forecasting of future demand are necessary.
“We started exploring business intelligence tools when our corporate data warehouse was no longer able to keep up with our rapidly evolving business. With SuperSTAR’s information integration capabilities and graphic functionality, our end users are able to
quickly and easily access all the necessary information at the right time in order to support our decision‐making process.
We have full confidence that SuperSTAR is able to improve the way in which we handle our statistical data. Not only is the solution cost‐effective for us, it is also not resource‐consuming for us. When asked to supply a prototype of the solution, they were able to do so in just days.”
