Application: How Safe is Your Suburb

Description:

Space-Time Research built the How Safe Is Your Suburb application as an entry into the Mashup Australia Competition. This tool mashes data from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research and the Australian Bureau of Statistics. It can be used by residents, local governments, state and federal government, researchers, non-government agencies, and crime and policy makers to better understand the meaning of the statistics produced by the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research.

EARtrak is a comprehensive survey process to independently measure hearing aid outcomes.

The process combines demographic and audiological data, provided by participating clinics, with satisfaction perceptions collected by surveying clients of those clinics.

Client satisfaction is measured over a wide range of hearing situations, hearing aid features, and clinician performance.

Participating clinics receive a confidential report which compares their demographic profile and client outcomes with aggregated data from all clinics participating in the EARtrak process in that country.

Anonymized extracts from the EARtrak database are used by manufacturers and researchers to better understand the factors involved in successful hearing aid outcomes.

Description:  

The Victorian Cancer Registry, on behalf of the Cancer Council Victoria, has collected details of all cancers diagnosed in Victoria since 1982. Hospitals, pathology laboratories and cancer screening registers are obliged under the Cancer Act (1982) to notify each cancer to the Victorian Cancer Registry and this information is collated for use in cancer prevention, control and treatment. All information is kept confidential and is held under tight security. Regular published reports, including the data available from this website, contain only aggregated figures and do not identify names of cancer patients or any other personal information.

This website allows users to obtain summary statistics about cancer incidence and mortality in Victoria in a variety of table and graph formats. The data that are available include cancer incidence and mortality for Victoria by type of cancer, age group, sex, year of diagnosis, international region of birth and region of residence within Victoria.

Description:

The Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) is chartered to produce evidence‐based and statistical research to aid in the battle against illegal drug use and crime. As interest in the research grew among key users such as the police departments, media, and charities the existing methods used to share the information proved insufficient.  AIC chose to provide the information online in a highly visual, intuitive format. Users now have easier, more flexible access to the data they need to make informed decisions. AIC can communicate their results more efficiently and productively. More knowledge to combat drug use and crime is available and at lower cost.
