You can save your recodes from the session into a file for later re-use.
Just press the 'Save' button on the Fields List box.
That will prompt you for a file name and location.
Once you specify that, you can save one or more of your current recodes into that file.
To reuse the recodes in a later session just use the 'Load' button on field list box to open the file you saved earlier.
Tip: You can save them as 'RCD' or 'TXT' format. The TXT format is better as it can be used with other cubes which may have identical fields. If you have many cubes with fields in common such as Gender, Region, Financial Year etc,. you can use the TXT recode with all of them. The RCD format on the other hand is specific to the cube it was built from. |

When I open a table in Excel I receive an error
When I then open an Excel table it gives me an error message. "file error: data may have been lost"
This error message in Excel occurs if you are using Excel 2003 with Service Pack 3 applied, or Excel 2007.
Microsoft changed the internal XLS file format from SP3 of Excel 2003 which triggers this error. It's a known issue and we have scheduled an update of our product to address it.
Until the fix is available here are a few workarounds:
- Use a workstation that doesn't have Service Pack 3 applied to Excel 2003 (SP1 and SP2 are ok).
- Use a different spreadsheet program to open the XLS files. Such as 'OpenOffice' or 'StarCalc'.
- Use a different file format to save the item from SuperTABLE. CSV is a common replacement for spreadsheets. (File -> SaveAs -> Comma-Separated Table CSV). Excel will open the CSV file but things such as fonts, styles and colors will not be transferred automatically.
- The other SuperTABLE format which might preserve the table appearance is HTML. (File -> SaveAs -> HTML - Single File). Excel will open the HTML format also.
This behaviour results from Microsoft altering the XLS file format as part of Office 2003 Service Pack 3. Microsoft have published a Knowledge base article (938810) which describes registry edits to work around the problem. Clients with earlier versions of Excel should not notice the issue when using XLS files created by SuperCROSS. |

Can I change the table background color?
The bright white background of SuperTABLE contrasting with the black text affects my eyes if I work for too long. What can I do ?
In User Preferences you can select the colour of the workspace background.
- Edit -> Options -> General
- Select a background color that is softer to reduce the contrast. The color you select wont affect any saved table so your clients wont notice any difference regardless of what colour you prefer.

Yes, SuperTABLE can parse operating system environment variables found in INI files.
For example, if you prefer to unpack your cubes to the temporary directory on your system (instead of the default location C:\Program Files\STR\SuperTABLE\Databases)
Edit super.ini and change the DBPATH parameter in the [General] Section.
[General] DBPath=%TEMP%
Similarly, you might prefer to deploy cubes to your 'My Documents" area.
[General] DBPath=%USERPROFILE%\My Documents |

What is a dataset?
A Dataset is a collection of data in a file. Datasets contain a number of fields or classifications. It may also include a number of measures (or counting items) such as 'people', '$', tonnage etc,. From the range of classifications included, different tailored tables can be created to suit your query.
SuperTABLE reads and manipulates datasets which have previously been created in SuperTABLE format. These datasets can be obtained from data providers such as the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The SuperTABLE formats are:
- SuperTABLE tables (.scs)
- SuperTABLE summary record database format (.SRD).

How does an SCS file differ from an SRD file?
A SuperSTAR Table file (file type '.scs') contains both a definition of the query used to generate the cross-tabulation plus the aggregated results generated when the query was originally run against the SuperSTAR database/cube.
It does not contain a copy or subset of the original micro-data held in the SuperSTAR database/cube. This only exists within the SRD (cube) file, or the original SuperSTAR database.
You can use SuperTABLE to open the SuperSTAR Table (.scs file) and view the information it contains without having to have access to the original SuperSTAR database/cube. However, if you do happen to have access, you are given the ability to seamlessly reformat the query shown in SuperTABLE and run your new query against the SuperSTAR database/cube to get back fresh results.
If you open a SuperTABLE Table but you do not have access to the original SuperSTAR database/cube then the Field selection window is not displayed and the associated toolbar button that normally launches the Field selection window is greyed out. |

SuperTABLE v4.3 is an old version of SuperTABLE and should not be used with Vista.
SuperTABLE v6.5 or higher is recommended.
When opening a cube (SRD) file you may see an error such as:
In this case you can try using SuperTABLE in Windows XP compatibility mode.
- Close SuperTABLE if you have it open.
- Using Windows Explorer, locate the SuperTABLE installation folder - the default being C:\Program Files\STRSuper\TABLE
- Locate the file 'Super.exe', right-click the program name, and then click Properties from the pop-up menu.
- From the Properties Dialogue, select the Compatibility tab and then select the "Run this program in compatibility mode" check box.
- Select Windows XP from the list of operating systems presented, and then click OK.
- Repeat the steps 3 -> 5 for the file 'InstallSRD.exe'.

An SRD (Summary Record Database) is a subset of a SuperSTAR database containing many dimensions of data. Also known as a data cube. |

What are "Summation Options"?
Summation options are the 'counting items' in a dataset, such as number of people, number of cars, hours worked. Also known as 'measures'.
SuperTABLE can tally more than one measure simultaneously. For example you can total up a count of people, and their weekly earnings.
To do this double-click the 'Summation Options' item in the field list box to see what is available for the dataset.
You can then select each measure you wish to tally and then add the Summation Option recode to your table using the same method you use for adding a normal field. |
